Cara, Nick and family would like to welcome you to The Old Black Horse
The Old Black Horse is a traditional country pub and kitchen located in Mapperley Village on the edge of Shipley Country Park. We serve food 6 days a week, including our famous ‘Carvery’ Sunday lunches. Our head chef, Tony, uses fresh ingrediants to create the delicious dishes on our menu, and his ever changing specials boards.
We are a ‘Free House’ which means we are completely independent and not tied to any brewery, allowing us to bring you a great selection of drinks from all over the world, including local real ales, specialist gins, and international wines.

We have a wide selection of local ales
Here at the Old Black Horse, we’re proud to serve a good selection of well kept real ales. Our ‘Free House’ status allows us to source new and exciting beers from almost anywhere. As well as traditional favourites such as Abbot Ale, we also offer an ever changing range of guest ales from both local micro breweries, and national breweries. The ‘Real Ale’ section of our web site allows you to see what’s on today, and what’s coming soon. Don’t forget you can always ask for a sample!
Our Food
All of our food is homemade by our in-house chef Tony. We use fresh produce from local suppliers including Owen Taylors. Our meat is 24 day hung for extra taste.

It's always Gin o'Clock
With an extensive selection, we invite you to experience an innovative array of classic and bespoke gins. We currently have over 20 stocked gins including Malfy, Brockmans and Whitley Neil.
All our gins are served in a large balloon glass with ice, a specially chosen premium tonic to enhance the natural flavours and distinctive botanicals of each gin, and a complementary garnish.
